Some notes on LRT224. Freezing and Hangs

Got a LRT224 for its OpenVPN capabilities but ended up struggling with stability issues. Here are the symptoms.

The router would work fine for an undetermined amount of time and would then dynamically freeze. the Logs might or might not show any information except something that says

upnpd[438]: UPNP Rule is not FULL!!!

Not much information other than that. Rebooting the router seems to work for a while, but the router might freeze again after an undetermined amount of time. This can be extremely painful if you have services that you need to connect to behind the router. After lots of testing and trying, it seems that the LRT224 might have issues with uPNP. Old Drawings

Moved to a new server hoping that wordpress would be easier to maintain. lots of old links are now broken due to the migration and lack of maintenance of the old server.

Hopefully, this shift would signal a beginning of a much more stable system to come.

In the meantime, this is a repost of the drawings i have done in my younger days. Only LOTR ones are not actually by me… i can’t remember where i got them from through. I believe it was submitted to me by someone such that i can host it.

In order to make use of the network, VOIP and MIOTV separately, there is a need to split these 3 items into individual connections so that “dumb” routers or layer 3 routers can make use of them. Based on recommendations from friends, i made use of a CISCO SLM2008T which cost SGD$159 to do this. Cheap and relatively trouble free. However, i noticed that the above blog doesn’t map to my Layer 2 switch so i think the below steps would serve as a reminder to how i did it in principle.
